OUT/SIDE/FILM – Ian Nesbit and Matthew Pountney

Matt is an improbable hero for theses uncertain times. He’s not sure how, or even why , but he knows he needs to go on an important journey and he knows it’s got something to do with 2012. ‘Taking The Micheal’ is the story of his unlikely odyssey through ancient and modern Albion. Travelling in a pedal-powerees 1968 Bond Ranger, Matthew Pountney and film make Ian Nesbitt make faltering progress down the St.Michael’s Ley Line from Avebury in Wiltshire to St.Michael’s Mount in Cornwall using a combination of pure documentary, anecdotal oral history and total myth . . .

end of the world

‘end of the world’ has provided scope for artists to respond to existing questions around a nostalgic vision of the future characterised by heaps of redundant technologies, ever expanding populations in relation to shrinking resources, all linked to the popular notion related to the Mayan calendar that the world will end on 21st Dec 2012. Inspiration for the ‘end of the world’ came from numerous sources including Angela Carter, William Gibson, J.G.Ballard, Slavoj Žižek, Donna Haraway, the golden age of TV, Flaubert and our ever-expanding dependence on technology.
